New blog post by Adam about the coming changes in the community
Hi Everyone! My name is Adam and I am a producer in The Sims Internet Group. We are busy developing the community website for The Sims 3 game. We’re making sure that the new site has all of the popular sections of TheSims2.com along with some upgrades that make it even more fun and easy to use TheSims3.com. Plus, we are developing some new features that will give you more ways to be creative and make it easier for you to share your custom creations with your friends. Today I am going to share a little about a few of the features we have planned for the site launch.
First, we are really excited about the new Exchange. We’re making it way easier and faster to find what you are looking for by browsing and searching. You’ll be able to use keywords and filters to hone in on what you are looking for, and the advanced search function is crazy powerful. Plus, we’ll let you sort your search results and category listings by date, number of downloads, and number of recommendations. Yes – members of the community will be able to recommend items by clicking a thumbs-up icon! There is no thumbs-down, so this is truly an all-positive rating system!
Second, we are greatly improving the community experience inside the game Launcher. Every time you launch the game, you will be able to check a new Launcher webpage to see the latest news, and even browse and download featured game items that members have created and uploaded to the Exchange. You can also learn about fun community activities and promotions. You will be able to link to your favorite areas of the site directly from the Launcher as well.
Next, we can’t wait until everyone starts creating their own movies on the site using our new Movie Mashup tool. You’ll be able to upload your own video clips and screen shots that you record in the game and use them to make cool movies about your Sims! Make music videos, comedies, dramas – whatever you like! We will provide a library of video clips and images that you can use along with your own, as well as a music library with hundreds of tracks. The tool lets you choose transitions and effects to use on your clips and you can also use text captions to add narration and dialog. We will also have a Story tool that will let you create our own stories using uploaded and common screen shots.
Finally, we are making it easier than ever to share your creations with your friends. We are going to have really easy sharing tools that let you share anything you make – including Sims, Houses, Movie Mashups, and Stories – via email as well as by posting to other sites like Facebook and MySpace and embedding into blogs and fan sites.
These are just a few of the many community site features that will help you to enrich your game online. I will be back early in the new year to share some info about all the great community features we have planned for release post-launch. We are really looking forward to launching this site and building a huge, fun and creative community. Cheers!
